Google unveils new AI models in response to competitive pressure
Google, part of Alphabet, has recently launched updates to its Gemini family of large language models (LLMs), introducing a new cost-effective product line aimed at competing with budget-friendly AI models, such as those from its Chinese competitor, DeepSeek. Among the new offerings is the "Flash-Lite" model, designed to be even more affordable than the previous lightweight "Flash" version. Additionally, Gemini 2.0 Flash has been made publicly available after a developer preview in December, and a new version of its flagship "Pro" model is now in testing. This move comes as the tech industry faces increasing pressure to address the rising costs of AI development. Investors are particularly focused on the expenses involved, especially following DeepSeek's claim that it spent under $6 million on the final training of one of its models.
