Renowned Lalon singer Farida Parveen has been hospitalized due to severe respiratory distress. Her husband, Gazi Abdul Hakim, an instrumentalist, informed Prothom Alo that she was admitted early this morning and is now in the ICU. He mentioned that fluid has accumulated in her lungs, along with other health complications.
According to Ashish Kumar Chakraborty, Managing Director of Universal Medical College, Farida was brought in at dawn with acute respiratory distress. After conducting necessary tests, she was placed in the ICU. Along with lung issues, she is also dealing with diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid problems, and age-related complications. She is under the care of specialists in respiratory diseases, nephrology, and critical care. Given her complex condition, dialysis has been recommended, and her progress will be closely monitored.
Farida Parveen, who started her musical career in 1968 as a Nazrul Sangeet singer at Rajshahi Radio, rose to fame in the early 1970s for her patriotic songs. She later trained in Lalon music under Moksed Ali Shah. Over the years, she has received numerous accolades, including the Ekushey Padak in 1987, the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize in 2008, and the National Film Award for Best Playback Singer in 1993. She also founded the Achin Pakhi School to teach Lalon music to children.
