Train services across Bangladesh resumed this morning after being suspended for over 26 hours, as train drivers and other staff ended their strike. Bangladesh Railway Director General Afzal Hossain confirmed that operations restarted in the morning, although some delays were expected due to the time required for the staff who were on strike to return to their posts.
The first train, the Dhumketu Express heading to Rajshahi, departed Kamalapur station at 6:30 am. By 10:15 am, around 10 trains had already left their respective stations, though some were running behind schedule, according to Station Master Anwar Hossain.
The strike was called off around 2:45 am after a meeting at the railway adviser's residence, where the Railways Ministry Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan assured the workers that their demands, including a special retirement allowance, would be addressed. The meeting involved railway leaders, government officials, student leaders, and a BNP representative. The strike had begun the previous day, as workers sought better benefits.
